Why Farmers Markets?

They increase access to fresh food! Good Local Markets accepts Lonestar/SNAP benefits and WIC vouchers at all locations to ensure fresh, healthy, and local food for all.

They support healthy communities! Proximity to farmers markets is associated with lower body mass index. On average, market goers experience an average of 17 social interactions while at the farmers market, increasing community connectivity.

They preserve farmland and rural communities. The U.S. loses an acre of farmland a minute to development. 67% of Good Local Markets vendors claim to be dependent on the market as a source of income.

They stimulate local economies. Locally-owned retailers, such as farmers markets, return more than three times as much of their sales to the local economy compared to the chain competitors.
